Smyrna High School should allow spectators at their school sporting events this year.
while we understand the fear and uncertainty behind the decision to prohibit fans, we do not believe this is the best decision for our children.  Rather than prohibit fans the district could limit the number of fans per family.  Many of these athletes played all summer within the guidelines and had fans watching the entire time. There are other schools in the Henlopen Conference allowing spectators at their sporting events. Parents should be allowed to watch their freshman play in their first high school game, and parents should be allowed to play in their seniors last games of their high school career, as well as every parent in between.
Being present for our student athletes is so important and we should be able to watch them and cheer for them (masks on) in person!
