Greetings Supporters!
Today I visited The National Zoo to check on Bei Bei & Mei Xiang.
I watched Bei Bei for almost an hour. He seemed very sedate, listless & despondent, as well as lost, confused & not quite sure what to do with himself. He spent a lot of time high up in a tree looking over into Mei Xiang's yard.
As for Mei Xiang, I saw her very briefly & she was pacing. However, she was out of view (inside the panda house) for most of the time I was at the zoo.
The panda house was closed to the public when I was there. There was tape over the entrance & no one could go inside. Nobody seemed to know why it was closed. And with Mei Xiang not being on view, I was concerned about what was happening to her inside.
Many supporters are saying that Mei Xiang is being given sedatives to calm her down. They also say that she will be given hormone medicine to get her ready sooner for breeding. (We know she is not ready yet. She was still lactating when Bei Bei was taken away from her & several people have pointed out that her estrus usually occurs in April).
These pandas are depressed, suffering and miserable. And now medicated (in the case of Mei Xiang). This could all go away if only the zoo would press a button to open the door between them!
Please, please, please keep sharing this petition with your friends & family. And ask them to share!
Time is of the essence here. Our petition is now over 1,300 signers from all over the world.
When will The National Zoo respond to us?
Sincerely,
