Big news! The massive growth of my petition over the last few weeks (thanks to thousands of new supporters) has led to a huge success for my campaign. After my petition got national news coverage, Sky made its biggest commitment yet to add subtitles on demand.
In a statement on Thursday Sky have said they will launch subtitles on NOW TV (which is owned by Sky) by the end of 2016 and on the Sky Go and Sky Q apps soon after in 2017. From September, they’ll start increasing subtitled Sky on demand content, working towards a target of at least 80 percent.
I’d like to thank all my supporters for helping to make this happen. I’m looking forward to finally being able to sit down with my two little brothers and watch movies and TV together.
But my campaign isn’t over yet. Sky still needs to deliver what they’ve promised, and tell their customers how much they are going to subtitle on NOW TV and their apps, and when they’ll reach their targets.
If you haven't already, you should come over and have a little look at our Facebook page. We post the most up to date information on there, so be sure to 'like' our page and to be kept in the loop of the latest developments. You don't even need an account to view the page, so everyone is invited! You can find more here: https://www.facebook.com/SkyOnDemandSubtitles/
Can I also point out the #SubtitleIt campaign by Action on Hearing Loss who campaign for ALL providers out there to subtitle their On Demand content - as why should anyone be left out from viewing content? You can sign up here: https://www.actiononhearingloss.org.uk/SubtitleIt.aspx
Many Thanks,
Jamie
