Hi all,
We've been in contact with Sky in regards of their new product line, Sky Q. Sky Q is is completely redesigned TV box and a much more modernised system. Got some new features such as carry on what you were watching on in a different room or on a tablet. There are good and bad news to this. I will share the bad news first, BBC iPlayer and other network catch up channels will have no subtitles due to 'technical difficulties' the same for the tablet app when watching on the Sky Q app, there will be no subtitles. I thought the whole reason for Sky Q is to overcome these so called 'technical difficulties' and to eliminate them? On Demand will still be part of the summer roll out (same as the normal Sky boxes). The good news is (well not much has changed) the new Sky Q will retain all accessible features on the normal Sky box and will have subtitles on normal programming and recordings (if the program and channel has subtitles). It is rather disappointing that Sky have failed to consider the limitations and not really put effort in to overcome these difficulties prior to launch of this premium product. Yet they are saying that they are working on the app (this is on the same system as Sky Go which has been out for the past few years). So if you're thinking that Sky Q will be more accessible then unfortunately it is not and that I would advise you to stay with the current box as there is not much different in accessibility wise.
Many thanks,
Jamie.
