Are you paying attention, Skokie?

Are you aware that James Johnson, our first Independent and reform-minded Village Trustee in decades, is being targeted with retaliation by the Skokie Caucus Party (SCP) Mayor and Trustees? The SCP-controlled Village Board is threatening Johnson with a $5,000 fine because he authored an ethics complaint about the political corruption in our Village Legal Department. In retaliation, they’ve authorized $24,000 in taxpayer dollars for a publicly-funded, nakedly political, attack on Skokie's Independent Trustee.

It's worth remembering that the SCP enjoyed total control over Skokie's Village Board for 50+ years until 2021, when Johnson won a seat as an Independent. And last year, Johnson spearheaded the historic referendum campaign that updated the Village's electoral system, despite the SCP's well-funded misinformation campaign. This latest retaliation against Johnson is a desperate gasp from a failing political machine.

It's time to speak up! Tell the Mayor and SCP Trustees that we won’t stand for these attacks on Johnson. Tell them to cease and desist, withdraw their legal action, and focus on their real responsibility: serving the people of Skokie.
