End to colorism: Stop promoting skin whitening products!

End to colorism: Stop promoting skin whitening products!
The Issue
This petition is created on colorism for the component of Team Projects under the subject of Global Perspective for Cambridge GCE. This is an awareness campaign aiming to spread knowledge about the privilege of fair skin in our society and how it projects/advertises skin-lightening products and companies.
We know how much judgemental Asian beauty standards are. Many women desire to have a fair and light skin complexion. In order to obtain the goal, they start using face whitening creams, without realizing how it could deteriorate their skins. Most of these creams are synthetic and manufactured through processed elements rather than natural herbs as most commercials claim to do so.
These advertisements frequently begin with a female character who has a dark complexion and, as a result, receives a lot of criticism, is miserable, and fails in her career and other aspects of life. However, as soon as the fairness product appears in the commercial, she turns 10 times lighter than her prior skin tone, and she becomes instantaneously happy, receives a promotion, and receives admiration and adoration from everyone.
This product is targeted at ladies who began to believe that having fair skin will solve all of their issues and help them win hearts and praises from everyone.
The demand for fairness products is highly driven by women who try to light up their faces especially for marriages as the custom Indian/Pakistani tradition urges families to choose a "fair bride" for their sons. Henceforth, women with darker skin tones are neglected and less preferred.
Skin whitening is a huge business in Asia. From Japan to India, pharmacies and department-store cosmetics counters peddle all sorts of body moisturizers, face creams, and serums that promise to whiten users’ skin, playing off a traditional belief that a light complexion denotes status and wealth because people with fairer skin can afford to stay inside instead of toiling for hours under the sun.
As a matter of fact, “Skin whiteners accounted for about 80% of India’s $1 billion markets for moisturizers in 2019, reports Euro monitor International. The global market for skin lighteners was worth $8.6 billion last year, according to Global Industry Analysts Inc.’s Strategy, a research company in San Jose, which forecasts demand reaching $12.3 billion by 2027.”
To put an everlasting end to this issue arising amongst the Asian countries, we are starting this petition not only because the use of these creams can lead to fatal skin diseases and can cause permanent damage to the surface of the skin but also to stop the need of wanted to have fair skin and because it is essential for women to feel beautiful and without that, they won't be considered pretty or accepted by the people of the society they come from.
I urge you all to take a stand against these fake and fraudulent advertisements of these health violation skincare products and creams.
Take immediate action and support the main goal of this petition and through these small initiatives, we can make huge changes and impacts in the society and how they think. It can help to stop these companies from producing such products for women and change their slogans/goals.
These small sections lead to great changes. Let's take a stand for all those women and girls who felt the need to be fair to be considered pretty or acceptable by the male community and for all the embarrassment that she alone had to withstand and hold up against. And for all those people who were forced by their families to used these creams to have a better partner in their lives.
