Obviously, San Juan Hills High School has a traffic problem. It certainly doesn’t help that parents picking up their students up in the carline have complained so much that they've obtained the privilege of leaving through the lane of the first parking lot every day. It is understandable that the school is doing its best to satisfy everyone, but this recent change in traffic rules has drastically increased the time it takes to leave for students with parking spaces in the lots that are farther back, and really just students in general. It's important to remember that the majority of these students have heavy course loads and desperately need the time that is wasted in the parking lot. Additionally, many students have jobs that they need to get to, and this unnecessary traffic delays it all. 

In the lanes that the parents leave out of, students have had issues with parents being deliberately ignorant of the traffic rules by not letting students back out of their spots, cutting them off in line, and getting “road rage” to the point that they nearly hit students. These parents have also been parking in student spaces before and after school, which means that in the mornings, students cannot park in the spaces that they paid for, and are even late to class in an effort to follow the procedure it takes to report a parent parked in a student spot. Students should not have to lose valuable education and money to parents trying to save five minutes dropping their students off to school. 

This is a petition to keep the cones blocking off the first lane of the student lot, let the parents in the car line leave through the last few lanes instead, and publish a public memo that parents should not be parking in student spaces before or after school. Parents that use the car line to drop their students off to school need to know that they should be using only the car line, because while it may save them a couple minutes, it is costing other students much more time, effort, stress, and money. This will not be an entirely successful fix, and is temporary at best, but it will hopefully make the time spent getting out of school much more equal for students that drive themselves and students whose parents pick them up.
