SHFGS to educate students and staff about racial issues
Following the murder of George Floyd and the protests taking place in America and across the world, past and current students of Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School have talked about their own experiences of racism at the school.
The student body and alumni request that the school inform themselves about BLM as well as incorporate proper education about black history into the school (beyond one assembly a year.)
Many students have already spoken out, this is an issue that we have every right to angry about. It’s not been addressed nearly enough and pretending to “not see colour” doesn’t cut it. Unfortunately we’ve had to resort to a petition as it’s the only way the school will listen. By signing and supporting we all put pressure on the school to not only justify past actions but put in place infrastructure that educates individuals in a sensitive and cohesive way.
