Remove barriers on Spencer Road

Remove barriers on Spencer Road
Why this petition matters
Merton Borough have enforced a Low traffic neighbourhood (LTN) in Mitcham and have placed road barriers on Spencer Road, which has lead to severe delays in the area, increased pollution, stress and is a danger to public safety especially being so close to Mitcham Eastfields train station, with the barrier constantly going down, causing major traffic jams.
The roads that have been mostly effected are; Cedars Avenue, Acacia Road, Kings Road, Commonside East, Grove Road, Brenley Close & Tamworth Lane spreading further along into Mitcham Town Centre.
WE WANT THIS REMOVED ASAP! WE FEEL TRAPPED!
This is a danger to cyclists, pedestrians and local residents as many vehicles result in doing u-turns on residential roads.
There have also been a lot of temporary road works around the area- most recent being; Commonside East, Tamworth Lane & Cedars Avenue- resulting in more stand still traffic jams.
They promote cycling, walking and use of public transport but unfortunately not everyone lives down the road from their work to be able to walk or cycle there. We have been told to avoid public transport as much as possible due to COVID-19 but with the roads being blocked this make it harder for people to travel alone in their vehicle without sitting in traffic, no matter the hour.
They tried this in the Wandsworth Borough and now they’re trying to do it to us!
With the amount of incidents happening in the area, emergency services are now at a disadvantage due to this road blockage. It makes it harder for them to get to their destination due to the local traffic jams which is worrying for many of us who are vulnerable.
We want the barriers and planters removed ASAP!!
