Change this polytechnic semester to binary grading
Change this polytechnic semester to binary grading
The Issue
Reading emails from lecturers more than studying? Sounds familiar? Isn't that the daily for every single polytechnic student right now during this worldwide pandemic. A pandemic we did not choose to be apart of. Yet somehow, during this difficult time we are more concerned with keeping up with our grades instead of maintaining our mental health. An unchanging system, piling anxiety for our grades on top of everything else happening currently. While other institutions, such as NUS, NTU, SMU offer a choice of binary grading(PASS/FAIL) to ease their students anxieties about disruptions to learning amid the COVID-19 outbreak. Although, we maybe not as prestigious nor do our modules have the same level difficulty, but as students in a similar structure of learning do we not also deserve the same choice? Are we saying that polytechnic students grades are less important than the students in university? We are still students in a similar education structure. We are not saying all modules should be swapped to binary grading some definitely is hard to be graded using a binary system, things like project heavy modules, but exam based modules definitely should have an option for binary grading. Please fellow poly students come and help with our cause!
