The issue of nuclear energy as a viable and cost effective source of energy for Singapore was first raised in the 1980s. Since then, leaps in technological advancement had been made in the field of nuclear energy and it is now safer, greener, and more sustainable than ever. Moreover, given the geographical location of Singapore where there is no natural disasters, a nuclear power plant will be appropriate. We are petitioning for the Singapore government to seriously assess the viability of a nuclear power plant as a source of green, cheap, sustainable and self-reliant source of energy for our future. The abovementioned plant can be situated in one of our offshore islands. We also hope that the government can educate the general public regarding the advantages of nuclear energy and statistics about the safety standards of modern nuclear power plants to allay their fear. Lastly, we hope that the government can convince our neighbours in the region that nuclear power is a safe and viable source of energy that does minimum damage to the environment while drawing energy from an abundant source. In the backdrop of the global call to action for a greener world, there has never been a better time to seriously look for alternative energy sources.
