Declare Emergency in Karachi

The Issue

The suspected gas leak in Karachi's Keamari area has so far killed at least 14 people, according to a spokesperson for the Sindh health department.

no culprits are named so far, Schools are closed in Clifton. For many people Daily life routine disturbed due to uncertainty in Coastal areas of DHA, Clifton.
There are officially no emergency contact numbers issued for health concerns, guidance and no official clarity or statement for what SOPs are in place for public welfare.

Karachi already has many environmental issues, severely affecting its biophysical environment as well as human health. The industrialization as well as lax environmental oversight have contributed to the problems. The various forms of pollution have increased as Karachi which has caused widespread environmental and health problems. Air pollution, lack of proper waste management infrastructure and degradation of water bodies are the major environmental issues in Karachi.

The alleged spokesperson added that more than 300 people, including women and children, were also affected by the health disaster. So what are we to do next? Wait for death? Pay hefty fees privately to get health checks thanks to some SOP which wasn’t enforced enough during routine port activity?

The News reported earlier today that authorities suspected the chemical was hydrogen sulphide — a highly poisonous gas that is a byproduct of crude oil and also generated in sewerage system; however, the spokesperson only said the lethal substance had not been identified yet. If it is true there is no response from the local government.

As it is living condition are horrid in Karachi. The deadly aeroallergents will be last nail to taxpayers coffins. We at the mercy of incompetent Sindh govt demand the global organisations to get involved & declare environmental emergency in Karachi and create a competent official control and monitoring system for public health and environmental safety.
