Reunite loved ones in a Covid safe way

El problema

As people, we are deeply grateful for the international border closures that continue to keep Australia safe during this pandemic. We understand the need for continuous border controls, but many of our lives are seriously affected by these closures, in addition to many Australians without being able to see their partners, there are also many visa holders, without being able to return to their country and besides that, separated from their partners, children, families.

We call on the government to be more flexible with the conditions for obtaining exemptions from this travel ban to enter and leave Australia. Many of us have long-distance, committed relationships and are considered non-direct family members and told that “general tourism” will not be allowed until next year. We do not consider ourselves part of tourism since our visits are to spend time with our partners and are a vital part of our relationships and also become evidence in any future visa process that we may take to close the distance permanently.

There are also visa holders stranded abroad who are unable to return home and reunite with their loved ones in Australia if their partners are not Australian residents. In addition, there are Australian citizens who have compelling reasons for traveling abroad to be with their loved ones who are denied exemptions.

An important part of the Australia economy are all the foreign students and workers who decide to bet on the country and its growth.

Now we need to be listened to and allowed to enter Australia. We pay our taxes, we have valid visas and we are also part of Australia .

The mental health effects this is having on many of us are devastating, as we are separated for an indefinite period of time with no real answer on when we can meet, and we are asking for more compassion as we believe that strict waivers are now. disproportionate to the situation.

We are willing to pay for our own quarantine on arrival or return to Australia and also carry out the necessary tests. With any test that is not negative after 14 days, we will be required to self-quarantine until the test is negative.

Please, LOVE IS NOT TOURISM.
