Alannah & Madeline Foundation

Apr 26, 2016
Firstly, we’d like to thank you for helping us to keep all Australian’s safe from gun violence.
In fewer than two weeks our petition has attracted more than 15,000 signatures and the support of prominent Australians and organisations including the former Prime Minister of Australia the Hon. Julia Gillard, John Bertrand AM, the Hon Julie Bishop MP, Andrew Gaze AM and Melissa Doyle AM and Richmond Football Club.
Twenty years ago, on the 28th of April 1996, 35 people lost their lives, including little Alannah and Madeline and their mother Nanette. Many more were injured. It was a day that changed our nation forever.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the tragedy at Port Arthur, we are holding a candlelight vigil tomorrow at Federation Square, Melbourne.
We invite you to join Walter Mikac, Founding Patron and father of Alannah and Madeline, John Bertrand AM, Chairman, community leaders and survivors of Port Arthur. There will be performances from the Australian Youth Choir and Gorgi Coghlan, Jon Delaney and our very own Senior Advisor, cybersafety Jeremy Blackman.
We hope you can join us on this special day.
When: Thursday 28 April 2016
Time: 6.30pm
Where: Federation Square
Candles will be available for a gold coin donation.
