Parental Alienation: UN Human Rights Council to investigate UNSRVAW's Report

The Issue

The UNSRVAW filed a Report on parental alienation with the UN that is biased and untruthful (see the PASG/GARI-PA Critique). Please read our full Complaint Letter.

The UNSRVAW has ignored contrary evidence, including accounts of women victims and esteemed experts in the field, and broken her promise to publish the submissions she received.

The UNSRVAW recommends States prohibit parental alienation from being considered in family law cases.

The UN Human Rights Council declined to vote on UNSRVAW's recommended resolution for this in its 53rd session in June/ July 23 in accordance with our request. However, the report remains unchallenged on the UNHRC's records and can be acted upon at any future session. It is being touted wrongly in the public press as a "UN Report", and no doubt will be referred to in private family law proceedings.

There is a high risk for consequential harm to women (and men) victims of domestic violence and vulnerable children if the UNHRC acts on the Report or if it is relied upon in any way by other decision-makers.

A UNHRC resolution will disenfranchise people of their human rights:
• children of their rights to know and be cared for by their parents pursuant to Articles 7-9 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child,
• children and parents of their right to a fair trial,
• children and parents of their rights to family life.

By signing this petition you'll counter-sign our Complaint Letter calling on the UNHRC to:

1.      Defer Agenda Item 3 of the forthcoming 53rd UNHRC session until the 54th session

2.      Immediately release into the public domain the submissions received by UNSRVAW in her 'call for inputs'

3.      Conduct a public inquiry into the probity of the UNSRVAW’s Report and the conduct of the UNSRVAW in this matter

Although Item 1 appears to have been successful, it will be of little consequence unless items 2 and 3 are also acted upon.
