The Issue

Building Affluence LLC, a humanitarian non-profit, according to i.c. 35-38-1-17 is advocating for sentence modification or clemency for Anthony Parish (#166842), who has been incarcerated for 17 years. He was 18 years old at the time of the alleged crimes (murder and attempted murder). Since his incarceration, Anthony has made significant efforts toward personal growth and community support:

 1 Personal Development:

 ◦ Graduated from college.

 ◦ Earned over 50 certificates.

 ◦ Actively mentored youth in prison, helping them earn their GEDs and promoting anti-gang education.

 2 Community Involvement:

 ◦ Participated in food drives for the homeless in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

 ◦ Collaborated with the "Streets Meets the Ring" program, promoting peaceful conflict resolution through boxing rather than violence.

 3 Inhumane Treatment:

 ◦ Mr. Parish is part of the ACLU's "Dark Cell" lawsuit, alleging that prison officials placed him and 25 other inmates in solitary confinement with harsh conditions, including dangerous electrical wires, blocked windows, and unsanitary conditions.

 ◦ As a result of these conditions, Mr. Parish suffers from depression and hallucinations, for which he receives psychological treatment.

 4 Call for Clemency:

 ◦ In Anthony's case, a Supreme Court judge strongly disagreed with police searching his car without a warrant after he was already handcuffed and not a threat. That judge, Patricia Riley, who is now a Justice on Indiana’s highest court, said the search was unconstitutional. Years later, Indiana courts agreed with her in a similar case (Tindall v. Indiana 2019) and ruled that this kind of police search is illegal. The Fort Wayne Police video shows the same type of unlawful search, which is why Anthony's case deserves clemency.

The request is made with the hope that the court will recognize Mr. Parish’s transformation and grant him clemency.
