Sign for a Latin club in Tallahassee.
¿Por qué es importante esta petición?
More than 20% of students in FSU are hispanic but the only time we get to party with the music we want to listen to are the infrequent latin nights and the overplayed and worn out “Pepas” (which we still go crazy for). The last latin night at Bajas had over 1,000 people in attendance (as seen in the picture above). We have shown time and time again that we can fill up the classic nightlife venues and we deserve to be able to listen to the music that represents our culture and fills us with pride. In Tallahassee, there are country music clubs, clubs for people in the LGBTQ+ community, clubs for people who like rap, etc. There are over 17 FSU-recognized student organizations that are dedicated to celebrating latin or hispanic culture, and one in five students identify as hispanic or latino. We need to make a change and urge for a club that will make the culture shock of living here less intense. It can be a club that even people who have no hispanic or latin heritage can enjoy, as we have seen how latin music has been in the global and American top charts recently. For example, Bad Bunny has been No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart becoming the top musical act in the US after his new album debuted. By representation of latin culture, a place where latinos can meet each other, and a place where everyone can have a good time: this is a cause that is worth supporting. Help us in our journey to show the high demand for latin culture representation in Tallahassee and hopefully make this a reality.
