Sidney Citizens Petition
Sidney Citizens Petition
The Issue
An Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center campus is proposed for development in Sidney, Ohio. Data centers operate 24/7 and require substantial electric power, water for cooling, and long-term infrastructure commitments. Residents are requesting clear, public information about the site plan and agreements before approvals move forward.
Request for Transparency, Expert Review, and Public Engagement on the Proposed AWS Data Center
We, the residents of Sidney, Ohio, and surrounding townships, respectfully request that Sidney City Council pause final approvals related to the proposed AWS data center until residents are provided clear information, expert-reviewed analysis, and a public opportunity to ask questions.
This project has long-term implications for water use, utilities, land use, noise, infrastructure, and community planning. Residents support responsible economic development, but meaningful engagement requires access to facts, qualified expertise, and open dialogue.
We ask City Council to:
• Facilitate independent industry expert collaboration, including water, energy, environmental, fire services and infrastructure specialists not affiliated with the developer
• Provide full transparency on site plans, utility commitments, development agreements, incentives, and any constraints affecting the city
• Host at least one public meeting or town hall dedicated solely to resident questions and answers regarding the project
• Allow sufficient time for residents and experts to review and understand the information before any binding decisions are made
Community trust depends on open communication and informed decision-making. A project of this scale deserves public clarity, expert insight, and resident participation.
We respectfully ask City Council to slow the process, engage experts, and hear directly from the people who live here.
