SHUT DOWN THE NIGHTCLUB PORTION OF PIZZA WINE DISCO (PWD) at 788 King St W, Toronto

The Issue

Please sign this petition to let City officials know that we DO NOT want Pizza Wine Disco to operate a nightclub in our neighbourhood.

Pizza Wine Disco (PWD), 788 King St W, Toronto, has been masquerading as a restaurant but runs a nightclub after 11 pm Thursdays to Saturdays. This business has been a nuisance to our quiet community since opening in February 2022. Every weekend until 3:00 am, residents must put up with loud bassy music, large noisy crowds on their patio, sidewalk and street, patrons urinating and vomiting on private and public property, and traffic obstructions causing honking on King St W. These violations also cause a drain on city resources needed to investigate the numerous 311 complaints.

PWD only has an Eating Establishment License [1] but clearly, they are equal parts restaurant and nightclub [2]. According to a 2014 Committee of Adjustment decision, this location is not allowed to operate as a nightclub - no DJ and no dance floor [3]. This decision was obviously made to protect the neighbourhood from nightclubs migrating west of Bathurst Street.

The nightclub portion of PWD is severely impacting our quality of life by affecting our sleep, inducing anxiety, and decreasing the value of our property. We need to protect the integrity of our neighbourhood and bring peace back to our homes.

We are asking for the following:

  • The nightclub portion of PWD to be shut down
  • Their amplified sound to be in line with indoor restaurant dining audio levels – install soundproofing so that area residents are not able to hear the amplified volume in their homes
  • The patio be used for restaurant purposes ONLY and not for late night lineups for the nightclub
  • NO CafeTO patio permit to accommodate nightclub lineups
  • NO amplified noise on the patio
  • Traffic control; PWD needs to instruct their security to direct vehicles dropping off and picking up patrons to pull over to the side or in their parking lot to avoid obstructing traffic on King St W

We also want City officials to know that nightclubs in general do not belong in our community of residences, quiet daytime businesses, schools and parks. Letting PWD get away with operating a nightclub disguised as a restaurant sets an unwelcome precedent for other businesses to do the same and it must be stopped!
