Shut Down the Conflict-Ridden Petrol Station at Kingshighway and Martin Luther King Jr.

The Issue

On June 2, 2024, John C. Christmas, a loving husband, community benefactor, and brave hero was brutally murdered at the gas station located at Kingshighway and Martin Luther King Jr. It was a typical day, he simply went around the corner from his home, his sanctuary. Known for his compassionate heart, he dedicated his life to feeding the underprivileged, orchestrating rehabilitation efforts for communities fighting the tyranny of addiction. But that day, his life abruptly ended in a cruel act of violence. He was robbed, fought for his weapon, only to be shot using another gun, a freak accident that led to an undeserved end.

This tragic incident is not an isolated event. The gas station has become a bloody battlefield, claiming numerous lives of black men in the community. According to a report by the American Civil Liberties Union, black men are 2.5 times more likely to be killed by the use of lethal force by law enforcement or similar conflicts than their white counterparts. More alarmingly, St. Louis, where this gas station is located, has one of the highest murder rates in the country, with 64.54 homicides per 100,000 people recorded in 2024 (FBI annual crime statistics, 2024).

This urgent situation calls for immediate action. We demand the permanent shutdown of this gas station. By doing so, city officials have an opportunity to take a stand, protect the public and disrupt this cycle of violence. John C. Christmas should not have died in vain. His memory will forever echo in our fight for a safer community. Please sign this petition urging the local government to shut down this petrol station. Let us stand together to reclaim peace and safety for our community.
