The Issue

#BlockMrDeepfakes

"I immediately felt sick when I saw the videos…" - Ellesha

"For too long, this dark and pitiful corner of the internet has been ignored. But not anymore" - Ruby

Our private, intimate images have been shared on websites dedicated to intimate image abuse. These sites exist solely to violate consent. And we've watched them grow into thriving businesses. While big companies like Google, Verizon, and Visa are enabling and profiting off of this abuse.

  • MrDeepfakes is the world’s biggest deepfake pornsite. It gains over 14 million hits a month. It’s the first thing that comes up when you google ‘deepfake porn.’
  • AnonIB lists victims of non-consensual pornography by town, college, or school. Users trade images of their exes, friends, classmates, asking for ‘nudes of her little sister,’ ‘more of her.’
  • There are thousands of other sites like these.

We should all have a right to privacy and agency over images of our bodies. These websites make that impossible.

Sites like these are the infrastructure that allows image-based sexual abuse to grow. 1 in 12 people in the USA are victims each year (APA). But these sites have been allowed to grow unchecked.

Search engines like Google, Internet Service providers like Verizon, credit card companies like Visa could block these sites. They already have policies about harmful content. Why is this abuse not included?

We’ve been digitally stripped, traded, requested, purchased and shared to millions of viewers. Yet the creators and consumers of this content are becoming a flourishing community, facing no consequences.

The impacts of this abuse can be devastating and even life-threatening. We should all have a right to privacy and agency over images of our bodies.

Governments and corporations need to block these sites right now.
