Highlights Healthcare is a clinic which provides a type of learning therapy called ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) to help children on the spectrum build every day life skills, and reduce challenging behaviors by using positive reinforcement!!!!!!!

I am a parent who trusted Highlights Healthcare in Hickory, NC, with the care and well-being of my autistic child. Unfortunately, my trust has been shattered by the experiences my child and others have been subjected to at this facility. One specific incident involved verbal abuse directed at my child by a staff member. On another occasion, due to a delay in my child's usual caregiver, substitute staff physically mishandled my child. These experiences are not isolated, as I've spoken with other parents whose children have also suffered in this environment.

Even more concerning is the behavior of the clinic's director, who allegedly engaged in inappropriate physical contact with staff members right in front of the children. This kind of environment is not only unprofessional but dangerous to the mental and emotional well-being of the young patients entrusted to their care.

Furthermore, the physical condition of the clinic itself is alarming. Evidence of mold permeates the building, posing a significant health risk to the children and staff who are exposed to it daily. Mold exposure is known to cause respiratory issues and can exacerbate asthma and other chronic conditions, which is particularly hazardous in a healthcare setting where vulnerable children seek support and healing.

These serious allegations warrant not only our concern but immediate action. We demand that Highlights Healthcare in Hickory, NC, be shut down until a thorough investigation is conducted regarding these shocking allegations of verbal and physical abuse, inappropriate conduct by management, and the unsanitary conditions of the facility. The safety and well-being of our children must be our top priority.

Shutting down the clinic temporarily during the investigation will ensure that no more harm comes to the children currently attending. It will also allow for a comprehensive review of staffing policies, management conduct, and building safety to ensure that the clinic meets the highest ethical and health standards going forward.
