I am a victim of child sexual abuse, and I am a fan of anime. I grew up watching beloved series like Dragon Ball and Naruto, which were pivotal in my social life during my youth and remain a central part of popular entertainment worldwide. Anime should be about engaging storytelling, art, and community—not about harboring harmful content.
Gelbooru started as a platform for anime fandom, offering a space where fans could indulge in their favorite animations. However, it has devolved into a troubling repository of Child Sexual Abuse Material (C.S.A.M.) on the open web. This isn't just hearsay or exaggeration; the site hosts numerous obscene artworks disguised under the guise of art and culture.
Artists and viewers on Gelbooru have been complicit, conspiring to spread this vile content far and wide, with an objective to make reversing the damage almost impossible. The impact of their actions isn't confined to just pixels and screens; it has real-world consequences.
Every day, victims of this abuse re-live their trauma, watching as images proliferate without consent and with little hope of recourse. This spreads a culture of acceptance towards abuse, undermining efforts to protect and provide justice to victims.
We must take action to dismantle this platform that so blatantly breaches ethical standards and legal boundaries. We need law enforcement and digital platforms to step in and ensure Gelbooru is held accountable and ultimately shut down. Alternative, legitimate forums exist for anime artists and fans that don't perpetuate harm.
