Shut Down Brown Paper Tickets: They Steal From Artists!
The Issue
BROWN PAPER TICKETS MUST BE SHUT DOWN!
Their scams have been rampant since 2020, and still occur to this day. I have been contacted by at least 21 artists from around the entire country who have been victims of Brown Paper Tickets' deceit. All after I created a viral Reddit post (see link below). The total amount owed is $122,513.27! And this is only in our group of 21. There are more who need assistance! We are independent artists. We need this money to keep going. WHY
This petition was created to stop these corrupt business practices once and for all. What they seem to be doing in the present day is theft: taking money from more current artists to pay their debts. This is a dangerous, endless cycle that must end now.
THE STORY
At the end of October 2022, I used Brown Paper Tickets as a ticketing platform for my independent production. They still owe me over $7000.00. I produced, wrote, and directed an immersive horror ballet entitled The Governess that was a hit in Pennsylvania. We even had great press on NBC Philly and WMMR. Check out the press links below.
But, as of January 7th, 2024, I have yet to see a dime in my bank account. They were supposed to deliver my funds 10 days after the last performance date, which was well over a year ago. Between then and now, I have called their office numerous times, left them voicemails, as well as emailed them, to no avail. Their phone was down due to "COVID", conveniently. I filed a complaint with Washington State's Attorney General, pitched my story to NBC Investigators, filled out the bizarre 'payout form' for the 'new BPT', also known as Events.com, and even got ahold of someone via email and phone there, but have heard nothing since, and they still have yet to pay me. It makes me sick to think that all of my hard work has yet to be rewarded financially. I am a one-woman show at my indie production company Santa Mira Studio, and this event, like most of my productions, helps to fund my future projects, and pay my bills.
After a lengthy and tedious months-long search, I found a lawyer. He sent BPT/Events.com two letters demanding payment. What's incredible is that despite their other class action lawsuit (for Washington residents only), and several out-of-state reports, this company is STILL TAKING MONEY from artists to this very day.
CURRENTLY
Brown Paper Tickets finally paid me conveniently RIGHT BEFORE our ABC Action News broadcast aired on Friday, January 12th 2024. You can watch the story below. This is only a small victory, since other independents artists are still owed. Please help us fight back against Brown Paper Tickets and their latest shady business: Events.com. Let's shut 'em down!
