Reducing Teacher Absenteeism by increasing their salary

The Issue

The government is not providing the essentials for the children in public schools. In public schools, it is very common for teachers to be absent. India's education system is filled with corruption and teacher’s absenteeism. Teacher absenteeism not only affects the quality of education but is wastage of 22.5% of education funds. Without teachers who attend classes daily, the children are wasting their time and not learning anything. India’s education system is filled with corruption and teacher’s absenteeism according to the new global study. There are more teacher’s absent in India amongst the world, second is Uganda with 20% and in India, it is 25%. The global average of teacher absenteeism is 20%.

Politics in teacher appointments and transfers are the major reason for teacher absenteeism.

Teacher Absenteeism becomes a huge problem day by day. Teachers are absent half of the time which is impacting children’ s education a lot more than it should. Not only that when it comes to exam time the teacher’s hurry up and try to teach the concept very fast and the concept stays unclear in the child’s head. It is only when the students get a better education we can have a better future because these kids are our future.

Improving skills in management, accounting, monitoring and audit are basic requirements for reducing corruption in education. Teacher Absenteeism as big of a problem it is can easily be solved by increasing the teacher’s pay and penalizing them by taking away a some of their money for every day that they are absent. Currently, India spends 4.5% tax on education, we can improve this problem by spending 8% of tax on education. Every teacher should have an assistant teacher for every subject, so if one teacher is absent the other one can take the class. With that, we need better teachers overall who are more committed to their work. Every new teacher should be kept on prohibition for 2 weeks and if they miss too many classes they must be removed. This will help us get better teachers more committed to their work.

There are a couple of ideas that can be implemented to solve this problem. The schools can search for teachers that teach for passion and care less about the money. This way the children will be taught well. The schools can check the teacher’s statistics in a thorough manner and not just pick a teacher that is accepting less money for the job and not doing it properly. They should choose teachers that are better fittings for the children.
