Why this petition matters

In India, 20 out of 29 states have age limit in state pcs beyond 35 years and well into the late forties. If age limit is raised beyond 35 years, the civil services can incorporate efficient personnels from multifarious background and the exam can become all inclusive. It will help women, especially mothers and economically deprived persons, to contemplate UPSC exam once they can devote time to prepare after overcoming hurdles. If age limit is raised beyond 35 years from 2020, it will leave room for relaxation for reserved categories as well and they will have better chances to convert the exam into success. When the niti aayog has itself agreed that one third of the country's population is within 35 years, it's more logical to give opportunity to persons within this age group to take upsc when they can afford to as not all aspirants have the privilege to prepare for the exam in their twenties. In addition to this, it is pertinent to mention that even advanced countries like the USA, the UK, etc. have either no age limit or age limit upto 50s in their civil services. India's closest competitor and neighbour China (having a comparable population and a superpower in the making like India) has age limit beyond 35 years in its civil service exam and approx. 27 lakh students apply for the exam on an annual basis there.

It is the most popular student demand now that age limit of UPSC Indian Civil Service exam be raised beyond 35 years for unreserved candidates (without hampering needful relaxations for others) from 2020 as when UPSC commenced in India, age limit was only 19 years which has been through multiple revisions proving that further revision is possible.

Raise age bar of UPSC Indian Civil Service Exam beyond 35 years from 2020. Similarly all other government sector examinations be also brought under the ambit of age relaxation atleast beyond 35 years immediately.
