24x7 ELECTRICITY IN J&K: DECADES LONG NIGHTMARE

24x7 ELECTRICITY IN J&K: DECADES LONG NIGHTMARE
The Issue
Respected Prime minister and Sirs,
Warm wishes. I am Sakshi Sharma residing in union territory of J&K. On a starting note, i would like to congratulate you & your govt. for scrapping Article 370 & 35A with an aim to accelerate the pace of Development and positive changes in every facet of state for which it is deprived of. Today, a year later, on behalf of the people of J&K (Especially Jammu region) i am forced to ask "What has changed?, Where is the development?
A Childhood Spent Chasing Dream
I spent my childhood watching 2hr switch On- 2hr switch off game. Unfortunately its not a game, its the frequency of power cuts we face from decades. out of 24hrs a day we get only 12hrs of power supply that too cut short during summers. Many reports say that India has surplus electricity production but i wonder where is it going?. I left Jammu 15yrs ago & now i am planning to go back & settle there for the rest of my life but when this nightmare comes across my mind i drag my feet. Power cuts, perpetual, are the bed time story for our children. Their yearning eyes keep awake in a bleak hope that they will be in the land of Nod when they wake up.
Protracted Prejudice
I am not an opposition politician or anti-national but i am against the apathy which has been shown towards the people of Jammu on the pretext of development. We are, almost everyday, facing racist remarks and being trolled as a 'stone pelter', 'terrorist', 'anti-indian', 'Pakistani' and the tale goes on. I spent my childhood studying in a candle light with sweaty palms in scorching summers without power and i definitely don't want my children to be in that situation. A new suffering has also been added to our miserable life. We barely get a chance to get full speed internet which is the new source of learning. We are suffering, suffering a lot...!. Amid this pandemic staying at home in 20 celsius, for the rest of the world, could be a pleasant time but for us its not less than a 'Kalapani'.
Incongruousness: Whose?
Is our distribution system weak? Is it govt.'s apathy? Are we merely subjects? Don't we have the right to get basic amenities,as a citizen of India?. I'd be lying if said that these questions never came across my mind and then i ask myself 'What can i do?. I don't know who is at fault? and who is to blame? but one thing i know, for sure, is that we were and will keep suffering unless this bureaucracy-politics tandem uses us as scapegoats on 05 yrs lease.
Bleak hope
As a responsible citizen of the Republic of India, i am raising my voice with a hope that it will vibrate the eardrums of decision makers and that my voice will not go unheard. I am compelled to address this concern to Hon'ble PM because we hope that he can bring reforms and change for a good cause. J&K's electrcity department needs improvement from the scratch. Concluding with a hope that 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas' is not just merely a slogan. Rise & Shine India, "Jai Hind"....
