Help Indian Students to Achieve the Equality they Deserve in College Admissions

The issue

Dear reader,

Thank you for giving me a chance to convey my thoughts to you. For the past few months, I have been feeling especially anxious regarding my college admissions, since it is a well-known fact that today, where cut-offs go as high as a 100% for top Indian colleges, the space for higher education, is daunting.

When I started digging into this problem, I realized a fundamental fact, the education system and colleges by extension try to level the playing field for students on the college admission level, by providing everyone the same line to cross- a cut-off.

But what these colleges fail to understand is that those children come from inherently different boards- this translates to a different question paper pattern, different syllabus, different exam time-tables, different marking systems and extremely different marks as a result.

The CBSE eclipses all the other boards in a sheer number of students studying under it, but the others form a sizeable minority that is left unheard.

For the 2021 board examinations for semester 1/term 1 for example, where students studying under the CBSE were asked to attempt fewer questions (almost half) of what was attempted by their ISC/ICSE counterparts, they were also given the liberty to choose among questions- no such advantage was provided to their ISC/ICSE counterparts.

By supporting this petition, you will be able to ensure that students from boards like CISCE and state boards also deserve a chance through separate cut-offs for each board that is custom-designed for its requirements.
