Before the new sequel series "The L Word: Generation Q" came out it was discussed that actress Sarah Shahi was returning as fan-favorite Carmen De la Pica Morales. Then on January 2020 show-runner Marja-Lewis Ryan told The Hollywood Reporter this was not happening “It is challenging for us to imagine a world in which a Persian actress is playing a Mexican American.” 

First of all, we all understand that the show is trying to correct misrepresentation of characters that has been plaguing Hollywood. It is admirable but at the same time, not bringing Carmen back is a betrayal to the people who connected so much with the character and whose lives were changed by what Carmen represented.

Personally, as a mexican woman, Carmen's character meant a lot to me during very important forming years of my life and to have her back on the show will bring the closure that a lot of fans need. I also believe that there are creative ways to justify Sarah Shahi's origins in the story as Carmen's past wasn't really explored.

We would like to ask Showtime and Program creators: Ilene Chaiken, Marja-Lewis Ryan, Michele Abbott and Kathy Greenberg to reconsider this decision and bring actress Sarah Shahi back on the show.
