Show Us The Money Karate Ontario

The Issue

In October 2022, Karate Ontario failed in its obligations to submit an official financial statement. Instead, a document labeled, "For Discussion Purposes Only" was submitted. This document indicated a cash amount of almost $100,000 in March of the same year.

Yet, during the assembly of the 2022 provincial team for nationals, the board representing Karate Ontario indicated there was no money for the athletes. While other provinces provided some assistance in the form of merchandise or subsidies, athletes in Ontario shouldered the complete burden of the budget to include coaches expenses, travel, merchandise, and fees.

With the claim of $100,000 in cash, why didn't the board of Karate Ontario approve some sort of contribution to the athletes?

Some of our best athletes forfeited their position on the Ontario team because it was too expensive for them. Others chose to only compete in one division although they qualified for more.

The selection process of the 2023 provincial team has already begun and we believe that members of Karate Ontario deserve to be a part of an open and transparent Provincial Sport Organization.

We deserve the following.

  1. A full financial disclosure as legally obligated by its charter, by-laws, and ministry mandate. It must be signed by an accountant and the board of directors.
  2. A full disclosure of who is authorized to make payments and/or disbursements of any kind for the association.
  3. A full financial disclosure of any payments to any individual, association, club, or group totaling over $1500 since March 2022.
  4. A full financial disclosure of the tournament expenses.
  5. A full financial disclosure of any payments made to board members, their family members, association members, and club members.
  6. The opportunity for the membership to sit down with members of the board to inquire about any questionable transactions.

Please sign and share this petition and make the board of Karate Ontario accountable for their legal obligation of financial transparency.
