Thanks to all of you and your support, we've reached almost two and half thousand signatures, but the fight isn't over yet. Keep sharing, and keep the pressure on. We're making sure that the NT justice system knows we are watching. We're not going away. We're not forgetting. We're not sweeping this under the rug like they do.
This isn't just about Jake Danby, it's bigger than that. Much, much bigger. We're fighting for a sense of justice for human lives here. We're fighting for a culture change. This 24 year old (%#*! - insert your own descriptive word here) is just one example of the daily lack of respect for human life that is shown towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in this country, not just in the NT, but everywhere. Daily. Not a rare occurrence at all. This Danby didn't just come up with those kinds of disgusting thoughts on his own. He spoke them (in texts). But they are part of a culture of disrespect which will only get stronger and more powerful if we let this Danby get away without jail time. Others will believe they too can get away with it.
I'm here because I hear this kind of disgusting talk amongst children in the playgrounds at schools and online...yes, children...and that doesn't come from them...it's what they overhear, it's what they think is normal. This culture needs to shift. Big time. Letting this Danby walk free, is enforcing to our young kids that it's ok to treat people with such a lack of respect.
For too long we've known that Aboriginal lives in this country are not treated with the same dignity, respect, or sacredness as everyone else's lives. This is 2025, surely, surely, surely we can do better than what's happened for the last 237 years? Come on, Australia. Let's start treating all human lives in this country as just as sacred as each other.
If someone wants to question this, ask them, what if those text messages were about your loved one who had just been hit by that @$#*. And then you see him walk away with a slap on the wrist? You've already signed this petition, so we know your answer.
Keep sharing, keep the pressure on, and thank you.
