Show Support for Mr. Evans

The Issue

Samuel Evans of Rose Tree Media School District’s Penncrest High school has been unreasonably forced to resign. A couple months ago he was “exposed” on a white supremacy Instagram account for some tweets he posted years ago on his private Twitter account. These tweets consisted of his personal opinion on the Black Lives Matter movement. Mr Evans, as a black man, has very educated points and views of this movement, and was simply stating that he’d like to hold a mature conversation with someone who believes that it is unnecessary. We understand that some people were angry with the wording of these tweets, but his personal opinions should have nothing to do with his employment. These tweets were not publicly posted for all of the district to see, they were personal. As students at Penncrest High School who interact with Mr Evans on a daily basis, we strongly believe he has done nothing worthy of the consequence of forced resignation. Mr Evans is amazing at his job. He is professional, and an adult that students trust and respect. Penncrest was not harmed by his presence, and will surely be worse off without him here. We, as students, know and appreciate Mr Evans and are devastated that the school board would make this decision based off such ignorance.
