Should a new car have Rust in 1000 miles?

The Issue

In February 2012, while working in Hershey, PA I purchased a 2012 Dodge Challenger SXT. I took delivery of the car on February 22, 2012, with 12 miles on the odometer.  About 2 weeks later, while having some exhaust work done, the mechanic and I observed rust, yes I said RUST, forming and dveloping on what i consider CRITICAL suspension and sterring components, such as the struts, strut plates, control arm bushings and tierod ends.

Now I know some of you may be thinking, "well, you did take delivery of the car in February 2012, so maybe road salt got to those components." If we had a normal winter I wouldn't have argued, but I have been working in this area of PA since January 23, 2012, and there has been no adverse weather in this area that would have required the use of road salt, from that date, and/or the date when I took delivery of the car.

As I said I purchased the vehcile new. The Certificate of Origin, or MSO (Manufacturing Shipping Order) stated the vehicle was built on January 31st 2012, the delaer received it the first week of February 2012, so it only sat on the lot 2 weeks from when it arrived to when I purchased it, and the odometer before I signed owner ship papers stated 5 miles, and the salesman and I put 7 miles on test driving it.

Around the time of the discovery of the rusting components, Chrysler, LLC contacted me to perform a sales purchase follow up and get my opinion of the vehicle. I had discussed with the representative the rust problem and they opened a case about the concern/issue.

A CSR named Jessica from Chrysler was assigned my case, contacted me and we discussed the issue, she asked me to take the vehicle in to be looked at, and I did at Criswell Dodge in Gaithersburg, MD which is where I reside. Sean, the service manager was very helpful and was shocked to see the amount of rusting components and stated to me he has never see anything like this in his years working Service for Dodge. He snapped pictures of the vehicle and said he would follow up with me after he discussed the issue with Chrysler's vehicle engineer team.

Four days later Sean contacts me to let me know Chrysler is refusing to take care of the issue, even though the vehicle is NEW and under warranty. he said unless the parts fail they won't do anything about it. I don't know about you but rust is a sign of failure.

So thanking Sean for his time and effort i figured I would continue to deal with Jessica to get this issue resolved, however, I have left many messages without a return call, and it seems the case manager and the customer service reps want to ignore the problem.

What irkjs me about this situation is Chrylser took tax payer money to stay alive and was supposed to address quality issues and work to become a bigger and better company. However, how can you be a better company if you ignore you customers when they have an issue like a 1 month old vehicle driven every other week, starting to rust, and with 1007 miles on the odometer.

Having paid over $26,000 for this car you can imagine how furious I am they are choosing to ignore the issue and problem, and I know if you're like me and work hard for your money you would expect a new vehicle to remain new, and if this problem happened you would expect a fix immediately. $26,000 is nothing to sneeze at, not in this economy, so you expect to have a good quality product for that kind of money.

So I am enlisting you, the Change.Org folks to help to get Chrylser to fix this problem, or replace the car. and if you are unfortunate enough to own a chrylser that is rusting out within a month of it being built bought and owend you too should be standing up to be heard.

We helped Chrysler stay afloat, and this situation is a slap in the face for our billions of dollars we used to help keep them afloat.

So help me send a loud and clear signal. Short Cuts will not be tolerated and as a customer we expecdt quality, unlike this instance where in essence, they are ignoring a quality assurance issue.

Thank You
