#SaveBuxwahaForest Diamond v/s Oxygen

#SaveBuxwahaForest Diamond v/s Oxygen
The Issue
More than 2.15 Lakh Trees to be Cut for India’s Largest Diamond Mine.
Diamond vs. Oxygen
What we need right now?
Have we still not learned any lesson?
God is trying to give us clear signs of our destruction, instead of that we are ready to
destroy nature for the sake of the economic growth of the country.
Do we think this type of economic growth will lead India forward where its citizens will be striving for oxygen?
Ohh that isn’t possible….
India’s upcoming diamond mine at Bakswaha(Chhatarpur district) of Madhya
Pradesh is now being estimated to be the country’s largest diamond mine ever. India’s upcoming diamond mine at Bakswaha(Chhatarpur district) of Madhya
Pradesh is now being estimated to be the country’s largest diamond mine ever.
However, the mining project comes at the cost of cleaning forests with 2.15 lakh trees which the country can’t afford to lose at this critical pandemic time nor after it . The mines are located in a drought-prone region of Madhya Pradesh, where further deforestation can lead to ecological degradation. With the expected approval of more deforestation than stated, for the Bakswaha diamond processing, experts have raised their concern about the ecological imbalance in Bundelkhand.
In the area which is estimated to have 3.42 crore carat diamonds, there are medicinal trees like Bahar, Arjun, Tendu, and Cem in addition to 40 thousand trees of teak. According to the information, the survey of this place started 20 years ago. This survey was under the Monkey Diamond Project. The government has auctioned it 2 years ago.
Many companies participated in the auction, but the highest bid was made by Essel mining of the Birla Group. The government is giving it on lease for 50 years to Birla Group.
It is being said that 62.64 hectares of the forest have been chosen to remove diamonds and the mine will be set up there. However, the company has sought 382.131 hectares of forest, so that the debris can be dumped on the rest 205 hectares. The Capital Investment Cost is estimated at Rs. 2500 Crores.
DRAWBACKS
- Such large-scale deforestation in a drought-prone area can lead to salination of the soil.
- The total land area under destruction will be 382.131 hectares.
- Moreover, the dumping of debris in 205 hectares of land will lead to severe degradation of land in long run.
- 2.15 lakh trees are just an estimate, the real count is unknown.
- This can have a major impact on the agriculture of the place.
- The biggest impact will be a decrease in oxygen level.
We are already going through a pandemic due to an imbalance in the environment, we can’t afford another. After facing a severe oxygen crisis during this pandemic wave, can we still do this sin? The answer should be a big No. It’s an urge to know the importance of forests and save them. We can’t lose real diamonds (forests) for ornamental diamonds. So, be a part of this noble cause and join hands to save our planet.
"WE, AS HARITIMA, THE ENVIRONMENTAL SOCIETY OF HANSRAJ COLLEGE IS IN SOLITUDE SUPPORT THE NATIVE PEOPLE. WE ARE AGAINST THIS MINING PROJECT, WHICH IS TO BE COMPLETED ON THE FOUNDATION OF THE MASSACRE OF LAKHS OF TREES & DESTRUCTION
OF HOMES OF INNOCENT ANIMALS."
