Zekee Rayford is an 18 year old from Shertz, Texas. Rayford was driving home from welding school when he ran a traffic light. The officers, who have not yet been identified, followed after him, turning on their lights and sirens due to the darkness. Rayford felt it would be safer to drive somewhere with light, which was his home. When he arrived at the house he got out with his hands up. The officers threatened him with guns, and Rayford ran to his front door and started to scream for his dad. The officers yelled at him to get on the ground and to stop resisting, but he was already on the ground. Rayford was being held down by the officers, when one of the officers proceeded to tase Rayford 6 times. The same officer had his hand around Rayford's neck, and another proceeded to kick Rayford in the stomach and on his side over and over again. When Rayford's family members opened his door, they saw Rayford on the ground screaming. When Rayford's father questioned the officer's use of force, he was told "You better relax, or you're gonna get it next. I promise you, you will." This event was captured on video through a home security system.

Rayford was charged with evading an arrest with a vehicle, which is felony. He was also charged with evading arrest by foot, resisting arrest, and possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana, both misdemeanors. It is unclear whether Rayford was actually in possession of marijuana. Rayford has been released from jail, after his family paid his bail. There has been no action taken against the officers, and Rayford's sister has shared that chief of police Michael Hansenin has refused to sit down with Rayford's father. Rayford's family has planned to take legal action against the officers, and are being represented by attorneys Artessia 'Tess' House and Daryl K. Washington. This petition is here to show support for Rayford and his family, and to call for the Shertz police department to fire the officers involved in this event.
