The loss of the Pilots in early 2020 issued heartbreak to the hockey community. Not only did the fans lose a favored pastime, but many dedicated athletes, young and old, had their sport taken from them given no ice time was provided by their original practice venue.

We need an ice facility that will provide families, kids, teens, and adults another opportunity to increase their health and wellness, as well as serve the community by offering recreational public skating, organized skate parties, figure skating competitions, hockey leagues, instructional classes, tournaments and more.

Shawnee County Commissioners have a golden opportunity to restore that future to these athletes. Parents and athletes are now having to travel into the Kansas City area multiple times weekly to participate in ice sports, ice activity, and ice recreation. 

Having a year-round indoor ice facility can only build a stronger community. The arena will be a home to build confidence in young athletes, promote healthy lifestyles, and bring together communities and neighbors alike. From an economic standpoint, community outreach programs, and employment opportunities, this indoor ice rink stands to be a win-win for all.
