Prosecute Pamela Sanders for the death of Rebecca Carter!

The Issue

On August 18, 2011 a young life was taken from us far too soon. Rebecca Carter was jogging home from work with a friend on Shelton Rd. in Madison County when a car swerved  over onto the curb and hit her. It was later estimated that the car had been going 90 plus miles an hour; the speed limit in this area is 35. The person left the scene of the accident but was caught later when she tried to take the car to get it fixed. She swore that she could not have hit a person, and she remembered hitting SOMETHING but didn't stop. Becca died the next day in the hospital. She was pronounced brain dead and they stopped life support.

Please allow me to tell my story, to give you a little insite into the kind of person Rebecca was, and the events that occured that night:

My name is Kelcey Thrasher. I have been a long time friend of Becca's. We were in the same grade in school and graduated together. We were best friends, but were more like sisters. Becca had always had a hard family life, but for a long time no one knew it. She just kept smiling, she always smiled and cared more about other people rather than herself. As soon as we were out of school she found somewhere else to live, to get away from problems at home. She jumpped from state to state, trying to find where she belonged. Not more than a year ago, she moved back to Alabama. She moved to Fort Payne and was trying desperately to move back to Alabama. I only got to see her a few times since she was back and so the night I got that dreaded phonecall, I was blindsided. Her little brother called me at 2:30 that night to tell me that Becca had been hit by a car. I almost laughed, she had always been a crazy driver. Then, he told me she had been jogging home when it happened, and my heart stopped. I grabbed one of my best friends, Becca's cousin, and raced to Huntsville hospital. By the time I got there, they were not admitting visitors; we were not allowed to see her until the next morning. Around 10 AM the next day we were allowed in to see her. I stood by her side, stairing at her eyes, holding her hand, begging for her to wake up. Praying that she would look at me and smile like she always did... praying for a moment of hope. But that hope never came. After a few hours, me, Maegan (her cousin), and her little brother Josh headed home. We had just made it back to Florence when we got a phonecall, through teary eyes Maegan looked up at us and told us the news; that Becca was gone.

Later that day we heard that the woman that had hit her had been caught, we were all overjoyed. Ever since that day we have been waiting for news. How long this woman, Pamela Sanders, would be in jail, what the charges would be. What came next, was unimaginable and unexcusable. I was contacted by a friend that had heard from Rebecca's father. She told me that all charges except "Leaving the Scene of an Accident" had been dropped. The Madison County DA said there was not enough evidence to convict of anything else. She went on to try to put the blame on Becca, saying she was walking to close to the road.

Please help us to have a voice in this matter! We are potitioning the Madison County DA to prosicute Pamela Sanders to the FULL extent of the law! Help us to get JUSTICE for Becca! Don't let this woman slip through the cracks of the judicial system to freedom! Help us show the Madison County DA that we will not stand for this and that we believe that Pamela Sanders should get punished! It was quoted on another page for this,  "it is pretty sad when you can get more time in jail for tax evasion than taking a human life."
