Meg Whitman and Steve Cooley have promised to spend taxpayer dollars defending Proposition 8 in court, at the very time we are laying off teachers and emergency workers and cutting vital services.

Watch these ads telling Whitman and Cooley that people who care about equality won't stand by as people's rights are denied. The ads are airing in Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and Palm Springs.

Then, sign the petition to tell Whitman and Cooley to stop calling for taxpayer dollars to be used to defend Prop. 8 in the courts.

Our ad to Whitman appears above. Our ad to Cooley can be seen here.

Letter to
Meg Whitman
Steve Cooley
Our state’s economy is broken. The jobs of schoolteachers and emergency workers are at risk, and vital services upon which Californians depend are facing cuts.

Our state should not spend taxpayer dollars defending Proposition 8 and the inequality it has created, even when our economy is thriving. It should never turn its back on equal rights for all its residents.

Don’t pander to extremists, and don’t put our vital services at risk by encouraging that millions of dollars from our struggling state budget be used to defend discriminatory laws.

I demand that you immediately stop calling for taxpayer dollars to be used to defend Prop. 8 in the courts.
