REQUEST FOR RE-LOCATION OF AN INDUSTRY AND A POULTRY FARM POLLUTING THE RESIDENTIAL AREA OF GULMOHAR CITY EXTENSION,

DERA BASSI

Sir,

1.          We the residents of Gulmohar City Extension, Dera Bassi are facing an acute problem of air pollution which is affecting the health and property of all residents of the Society. Of the nearly 950 dwelling units in the Society, approximately 500 are presently occupied. While an Industry is located immediately next to the residential Society, sharing part of the boundary wall, a Poultry Farm is located at an approximate distance of 150 metres east of the residential Society.

 2.        Dense smoke emanates from the chimneys of the the Industry. Ash and other particulates settle down daily in each and every household in the residential Society, Not only is it harmful to the residents of the Society, it is also deteriorating the environment, arboriculture and property in the area. The concentration of pollutants is so high that it has a negative effect on the respiratory system and on the cardiovascular system thereby making it harder to breathe, triggering episodes of asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases, chronic bronchitis  and heart conditions amongst others. This is leading to slow poisoning of the residents which is presently invisible at this stage but will take a huge toll in the long run. It is therefore important that immediate measures be initiated to nip the evil in the bud.

It is pertinent to bring to your notice that recently the Haryana Government has issued directions under section 5 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986 to ensure that a poultry farm could not be set up within 500 metres of residential zone, 200 metres from a major water course and 100 metres from any drinking water reservoir on catchment side. In the instant case, the Poultry Farm has a residential Society on one side and on the other side is Village Haibatpur which is equally affected.<!--[if gte vml 1]><v:shape id="Picture_x0020_2" o:spid="_x0000_i1025" type="#_x0000_t75" style='width:222.75pt;height:155.25pt;visibility:visible; mso-wrap-style:square'> <v:imagedata src="file:///C:\Users\RAJKUM~1\AppData\Local\Temp\msohtmlclip1\09\clip_image003.jpg" o:title="102"/> </v:shape><![endif]--><!--[if !vml]-->

4.         Promoters of Gulmohar City Extension, Dera Bassi was approached in this regard. The residents were informed by them that the mandatory Pollution Certificate had been obtained by them before commencing the project and hence they expressed their inability to initiate any action against the erring Industry.

5.         In view of the above circumstances, the life and property of the residents of Gulmohar City Extension are at grave risk and hence it is requested that all concerned authorities be advised to initiate suitable action for immediate re-location of the Industry and the Poultry Farm polluting the Society.
