COVID-19 is a community-spread virus, and is a threat to people's health. As of March 8, there are a total of 9 confirmed cases in the city of San Francisco. This number will continue to rise, and to prevent that number from growing at an absurd rate, schools should be cancelled all across the city (at least two weeks) for the well-being of the students, staff, and their families.

Currently, Lowell High School is closed down due to a parent of a student contracting the virus. The campus is undergoing cleaning, and all classes/events are canceled until further notice. Lowell High School closed down only after a case had been confirmed. Is SFUSD only going to take action after on-campus cases have been confirmed? How will SFUSD know if students from other schools have contracted the virus and spread it throughout the entire school?

It's time for SFUSD to understand that one's LIFE has a higher priority than EDUCATION! This virus grows exponentially. Cases don't add up, they multiply. There aren't enough test kits in the entire state of California, and at the rate people are getting tested at, the number of cases in the city will only get higher.

If schools continue to open, there will be many absent students each day, either having contracted the virus, or wanting to stay home to be safe. Within the time the students decide to stay home, they are losing out on school material, while those who stay at school to learn the material are at risk of spreading the virus to others.

Canceling school for at least two weeks ensures that the number of cases do not grow uncontrollably through the students. It also ensures that everyone has an equal education, as everyone is able to work together on the same things.
