Place more buses in the MUNI 29-line AND reroute to the Mission and Geneva Route

The Issue

Problems:

1) There are not enough buses on the 29-Line. The average ratio of the Inbound [to Baker Beach] and Outbound [to Bayview District] direction for buses are 4:1. This is simply unfair. Most of the time, the buses are almost empty on the Inbound buses, and the Outbound buses are full.

2) The buses sometimes do not pick up passengers (the majority being students) waiting at the bus stop. Due to this, many students are losing instructional time.

3) The times for the bus arrivals are not accurate. The arrivals at each bus varies so much; sometimes, the buses are early, and sometimes, they are late. Either way, it can make students lose instructional time. Especially with the long intervals of 29-line bus arrivals.

4) The frequency of the buses are long. The 29-line buses come approximately every 15-20 minutes. Missing a single bus can delay students. There have also been instances that some buses do not arrive at some bus stops.

5) Due to the large amount of passengers, the bus cannot fit everyone, therefore, students lose instructional time just because the bus cannot transport the all students waiting at the bus stop.

6) The recent route change through Ocean Avenue, instead of Mission & Geneva, has caused difficulties in the commute system for students.

7) Before the route change, students could take the 29-line bus and other transit buses at the intersection of Mission & Geneva. Now, students have to walk several blocks to get to the 29 Bus stop.

Solution:
1) 29-MUNI buses should come in intervals of 5-7 minutes. Due to the lack of buses, the maximum output of 29-line buses should be between the hours of 6:30am and 7:45am. Afterwards, the 29-line buses may decrease its output because after 7:45am, there is not a high demand on the 29-line route, because most of the students are already at school.

2) Addressing the route change, SFMTA should return to the original route (Mission & Geneva), for convenient and efficient commute transits.
