The cost of parking tickets has become unreasonable and tickets have become a nearly unavoidable burden to drivers in San Francisco. In effect, this is a regressive tax affecting those who can least afford it the most.

Many residents and families living in the city drive out of necessity in order to go to work and to school. While the need for parking enforcement is understandable, the amount changed for minor violations has risen to a level that is unreasonable for low and middle income households. 

Speaking personally, the city has raised hundreds of dollars from me over the past year for relatively minor violations as I have attempted to park in front of my own home.

I will not dispute that having a rear bumper extend partially into the sidewalk in front of my home is something I can and should prevent, however, a $110 fine is not reasonable for most residents and does not fit the violation. I'm sure many can, unfortunately, relate to this story and hope that this petition will raise some attention.
