Shawnee Mission North has done absolutely nothing about this unacceptable behavior going on. This needs to change. There have been several reports of sexual assault, harassment, & violence at this school and whenever reported, administration does absolutely nothing. This is no way to run a school. Student Victims and assailants should be separated. One student had repeatedly asked to be removed from a class shared with their assailant, but North wouldn't listen. North is letting these CHILDREN assault CHILDREN with no consequence? Isn't this morally wrong in every way? How do you sit there and tell a child to, and I quote, "man up"? They are unsafe in their own school, the one place that is supposed to feel safe. More importantly, why does North never take threats and ACTIONS seriously? These adults have the power to change the behavior of children but instead use their power for ignorance and immoral actions. If you work with children you work to keep them safe and give them a comfortable environment to LEARN. Education is the important factor, should I have to live in fear while trying to get an education so I can have a better future? No. Education should feel safe in every way possible. We should not have to beg our teachers, counselors, and the PRINCIPAL to be moved away from an assailant. If I feel uncomfortable near someone, why would you force me to be around them? I'm here to learn. Not only at this school but district wide and even statewide. How is it that Kansas is the THIRD in the entire Nation to report cases of sexual assault on public school property? It's disgusting really. Keep your kids safe. That is the reason for this petition. Oh, and PRIVATE COMPLAINTS AGAINST A STUDENT IS NOT PUNISHMENT. I hope you all take the time to sign this so we can finally get some justice.
