On Tuesday February 8th, I came face to face with the POS that was responsible for the death of my daughter for the first time in the court room. Daniel Mayo took a plea deal last minute. He stood before the judge and pled and was found guilty for ALL charges. (Vehicular Homicide, DUI, Vehicular Assault, Reckless Driving, Speeding, Reckless Endangerment with Deadly Weapon, and Following too closely). He was sentenced to 12 years and will be eligible for parole after serving 30% of his sentence, which is 3.5 years depending on how much “good time” they give him for his time in Sevier County jail! His license got suspended for a year during his serve time when it should be after he is released. I’m highly disgusted and was hoping for more justice than that. The justice system is more worried about protecting the criminals than the victims. It’s just not right! My sweet Ella’s life was taken by that selfish human being for a crime that was 100% preventable. He needs to be held accountable and not just get a slap on the wrist. These crimes are happening more and more every day and it’s time for something to be done! We are talking and working with our Tennessee legislator’s on getting these laws changed to where vehicular homicide caused by DUI is considered a Class A felony, not a class B. The serve time should also be 100%. So, now we wait to attend parole hearings to try to keep him in as long as we can! I can only hope he gets what he deserves in prison, and he don’t ever walk out of there! I hope he’s reminded every single day what he’s done and what he has caused. We are hoping for a change in the future for stricter laws and harsher punishments for crimes like these! We will continue to fight and hope our voices are heard. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers! They are very much appreciated #justiceforEllaMae #holdtheMayo
