Service Dogs for Veterans with PTSD - Become a citizen co-sponsor of H.R. 1448

Service Dogs for Veterans with PTSD - Become a citizen co-sponsor of H.R. 1448
The Issue
Take Action: Become a citizen co-sponsor of H.R. 1448 - legislation that brings service dogs and veterinary insurance to veterans.
Thousands of Canine Companions® advocates have urged Congress to bring the lifesaving gift of trained service dogs to veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Your voices have been heard.
The Puppies Assisting Servicemembers for Veterans Therapy Act (H.R. 1448) has over 300 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives - a great sign for its passage. What does this bill do?
- It gives the Department of Defense authority to use trained service dogs as a treatment option for veterans with PTSD – an option that was not previously available despite evidence that trained service dogs reduce suicidal ideation among these veterans.
- It extends veterinary health insurance benefits to veterans with service dogs to assist with ongoing care for the dog.
Congress is poised to take meaningful action to improve the lives of veterans with PTSD. But we can’t lose this momentum. This bill has a real chance, but we need Citizen Co-Sponsors to make it a reality.
Become a citizen co-sponsor of H.R. 1448 and show our elected leaders that we’re paying attention.
