Separate the LGB from the TQ+ for unified advocacy
The Issue
As a proud gay individual, I've witnessed firsthand the struggles and victories that the lesbian, gay, and bisexual communities have faced over the years. Our community, strengthened by shared experiences and mutual goals, has achieved remarkable victories, such as the legalization of same-sex marriage, and gained strides in earning the respect and dignity we rightfully deserve.
However, in recent years, there's been an increasing disconnect between the LGB community and the broader spectrum of identities represented by TQ+ and beyond. While every individual's identity is valuable and deserves recognition, it's become clear that our stories and struggles diverge in significant ways. Many of us who identify as LGB do not share the same experiences or challenges as those in the transgender and queer communities, which affects our ability to work collectively towards common goals.
The initial fight for LGB rights was rooted in shared struggles against discrimination based on sexual orientation and the advocacy for love, respect, and equality. Now, more than ever, we need a renewed focus on these shared origins to unite and address the distinct challenges that lesbian, gay, and bisexual people face today.
By advocating for the separation of LGB from TQ+, we aim to restore unity among those with similar stories and experiences. We look to create an LGB headquarters—a dedicated space where LGB individuals can gather, make collective decisions, and continue to advance our rights without the complexity of additional letters in our rainbow.
This is not about rejecting others but about consolidating efforts where they are most effective and meaningful. It's about ensuring that the sacrifices and struggles of gay, lesbian, and bisexual pioneers are honored by continuing to fight for the specific rights and recognitions they worked so hard to achieve.
Join us in advocating for an LGB community that reflects our shared histories and futures. Sign this petition to support the creation of a distinct LGB community focused on common goals and relentless advocacy for our rights. Together, let's continue the legacy of those who fought bravely for our dignity and love. Please sign this petition to show your support. Together, we can make a change.
