Separate men from women during Tawaf in Hajj and Umrah

Separate men from women during Tawaf in Hajj and Umrah
The Issue

The experience of performing Tawaf during Hajj and Umrah should be one of spiritual connection and peace. However, for many women, this sacred journey is overshadowed by physical discomfort and concern. As a woman, I have experienced firsthand the physical pushing and touching that occurs due to the large crowds and mixed-gender environment within the sacred precincts. Men, being generally taller and stronger, often inadvertently push through the crowd, leaving women feeling vulnerable and distracted from their spiritual duties.
The current practice of mixing genders during these pivotal rites often leads to unintentional contact, which can be distressing and disruptive to the spiritual focus required at this holy site. To address this, I propose implementing designated times for men and women to perform Tawaf separately. This separation can enhance the spiritual experience of all pilgrims, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to complete their rituals calmly and respectfully.
By assigning specific time slots for men and women, we can also manage the flow of pilgrims more effectively, reducing congestion and minimizing the risk of accidents or injuries in the crowded space. Such a measure would respect the sanctity of the event while promoting an equitable and comfortable environment for worshipers of all genders.
This recommendation not only aligns with principles of respect and dignity but also reflects the need for practicality in handling millions of pilgrims annually. Several Islamic nations have already implemented similar measures in smaller-scale religious gatherings and have reported increased satisfaction amongst participants.
Therefore, I urge the authorities responsible for organizing and overseeing Hajj and Umrah to consider this proposal seriously or at least initiate a dialogue on how to improve the experience for pilgrims. Separating men and women during Tawaf by assigning designated times could be a significant step towards ensuring the safety, comfort, and peace of mind of all pilgrims.
Please sign this petition to support the effort to create a more harmonious pilgrimage experience for everyone.
