Alexus Goodwin is a 24 year old African American female that just received a 20 year sentence for self defense . She was diagnosed with PTSD months before this incident from being a shooting victim of an armed robbery.Alexus purchased a firearm for her own protection shortly after getting out of the hospital. Alexus was walking to the store to get some food, posted her location online and to her surprise there were two women waiting for her on the corner street she had to cross to confront her. One of the women whom was 17 had previously threatened Alexus via Instagram multiple times and was there for obvious confrontation. The same woman who threatened Alexus reached for a weapon, had trouble getting it from inside of her pants and Alexus reacted and shot her before she could be shot. Granted this petition is not to condone violence but Alexus acted out of fear of her life due to previously being a victim of gun violence. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with no parole. This is her first offense and DOES NOT have any history of violence or felonies. Please help us and her family get her sentence reduced . The justice system has a totally different agenda when it comes to sentencing black people and it is ENTIRELY UNFAIR. The judge was bias and distrespectful , even when Alexus sincerely apologized the judge said she doesn’t believe anything she says , and that her tears of fear are because shes “going to prison” and not because she cares! This same judge has multiple reviews on her that say that she judges based off of her feelings and not the law, that she’s bias and takes sides!! Justice can not be served in bias hands Alexus Goodwin is not a criminal and does not deserve to sit in a prison until she is 44 years old.
