Students wearing skorts on their own during the warmer months.

The Issue

Students at South Wilts Grammar School wish to wear their skorts (as part of their pe uniform), on their own, during the warmer months. The school’s argument against this is that it’s ‘distracting’. This argument is flawed, especially for during the school day. The sight of legs, at an all-girls school, shouldn’t be so distracting that it diverts their attention from their schoolwork. So, this leaves the question as to who is being distracted?

We propose that students should be allowed to wear their skorts (on pe days during covid) if they so wish to, as long as they have an alternative means of dress when they leave school premises. We understand the schools concern about leaving the premises in a skort, but that argument doesn’t hold up for during the school day.
