Send Fetch Packing!

The Issue

Bainbridge is banning you from sending packages to your home

They’ll force you to use a service that frequently loses and delays packages

If you don’t use the service, your packages can be removed from the building

You must pay $240 a year whether you use the service or not

Bainbridge Shady Grove will soon be removing the package lockers, closing the package room, and forcing residents to have all packages delivered through Fetch. Instead of sending packages to your home, you send them to Fetch’s industrial warehouse and then wait through an hours-long delivery window for Fetch to bring them to you. Fetch can also remove any of your packages that are delivered to our building and take them back to its warehouse whether or not you have signed up for the service.

Residents at buildings who use Fetch report that the company frequently:

  • Has packages lost, stolen, and damaged while refusing to compensate residents
  • Takes up to 5 additional days to deliver your package
  • Unexpectedly cancels or changes your delivery time

According to Fetch itself, the service:

  • Makes no warranties on timeliness and security
  • Will only reimburse residents at its “sole discretion”
  • May delay delivery of your package for as long as it sees fit

As your new lease will ban you from having packages delivered to the building:

  • Your medications may be lost or delayed by Fetch
  • You may not be able to order certain items at all as many shippers refuse to deliver to Fetch
  • Your commonly delivered items, such as rechargeable batteries or cleaning products, may be arbitrarily refused by Fetch with no warning

Residents at our own building who have already had to use Fetch report that delivery windows have been suddenly changed, packages have shown up after they waited through their three-hour delivery window, and have had packages delayed due to Fetch’s mismanagement. Through all of this, Fetch’s customer service has been difficult or impossible to work with.

This change to our community is being made quietly with no meetings or announcements. Bainbridge likely plans to announce this policy only once all residents have signed new leases that include the Fetch mandate. This policy likley has only one purpose: to save our corporate landlord time and money while forcing us residents to work with a company that loses our property, damages our packages, and has no incentive to offer a reliable product.

We, the residents of Bainbridge Shady Grove, must make it clear to Bainbridge's corporate management that this underhanded package policy change is unacceptable. Those signed here demand that the mandatory Fetch policy be formally ended. We also demand that residents continue to be able to accept packages at their homes; whether through the current system or a mutually agreeable alternative.
